WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Waynesboro Hospital recently was awarded the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
“A stroke patient loses 1.9 million neurons each minute stroke treatment is delayed. This recognition further demonstrates our commitment to delivering advanced stroke treatments to patients quickly and safely,” said Dr. Sanjay Dhar, medical director of Summit Health’s stroke program.
This is the third consecutive year the hospital has received the award.
“Waynesboro Hospital has once again proven its commitment to delivering quality stroke care according to national guidelines,” said Tawny Jackson, director of quality improvement initiatives – Great Rivers Affiliate for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. “It is important for community members to recognize they can get great care at their local hospital.”
The Get With The Guidelines-Stroke program is designed to help hospital teams provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.
Stroke strikes 785,000 Americans a year, according to information from AHA/ASA.
