WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Summit Women’s Group Waynesboro is expanding its popular midwife model of care with the addition of a fifth certified nurse midwife to the practice.
Certified nurse midwifes are registered nurses who have graduated from a nurse-midwifery education program and have passed a national certification. They are certified to offer prenatal care, deliver babies, postpartum care, and prescribe medications and treatments. They are also trained to provide gynecological care to women throughout stages of life.
The mid-wife model was brought to the practice several years ago and the community has increasingly embraced the model of care. Beyond offering their patients’ medical expertise, the midwives at Summit Women’s Group – Waynesboro also give emotional care and support to their patients.
Julie Szymanski, CNM, the most recent midwife to join the practice, is no stranger to women’s healthcare. She’s been in healthcare since 1981, most of that time spent as a labor and delivery nurse. In 2009, she earned her Certified Nurse Midwife distinction, allowing her to further empower her patients and giving her the opportunity to make sure her patients have the knowledge needed to make the best choices for their health in a loving, caring environment.
“It is an honor to guide a woman through giving birth,” she explained. “By ensuring my patients have the information needed to make educated decisions about their health, I help offer them the experiences they seek.”
