Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine: I have served the Chambersburg community for 22 years as a board certified family physician before becoming board-certified in Obesity Medicine in 2010. At that time, I was 1 of only 400 physician nationwide who held such certification. I remain the only physician in Franklin County with Obesity boarding, and 1 of 36 physician currently certified in the state of Pennsylvania.
What patients should expect when they come to an appointment with me: As a specialist in obesity care, I am grateful for the opportunity to focus on individual patients in a personalized manner. Root causes for struggles with weight are sought out and defined, problem solving skills are honed. Nutritional, physical activity, emotional and medical goals are set in collaboration with the patient. Education and support is given at each patient contact, and recognition is given that obesity is a chronic medical disease, not a personal failure. Medications are leveraged to assist with weight loss and to improve health when appropriate. The primary focus of me and my staff is to assist each patient in achieving improved health while he/she is on their weight management journey.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients: I enjoy spending time with his wife of 30 years, Kathleen. In addition I delight in tracking the escapades of my 5 adult children. I enjoy participating in the leadership and mission team of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg. I completed an iron man triathlon in October 2018, and hope to prepare and complete another 140.6 K in 2020.
