Q: What led you to work in your particular field of medicine?
Answer: When I was in medical school, I was worried because I wasn't sure where I wanted to specialize. Nothing really stood out to me until I was participating in my surgical clinical rotation as a student. I loved it! My day was exciting, and ultimately, I got to help patients with instant gratification through surgery. I loved learning procedures and I enjoyed the wide variety of cases I got to be involved in. I knew I could really enjoy my career for the rest of my life and always be engaged.
Q: What drew you to begin practicing in the Franklin County area?
Answer: I have family scattered throughout the country and my husband and I were looking to move closer to the East coast to be closer to my sister and her family in South Carolina. We ended up visiting the area and loved it. It reminds us a lot of “up north” Michigan, which we frequented a lot while growing up, with the added beauty of mountains.
Q: What would you say is a common misconception about your particular field of medicine?
Answer: I think a common and unfortunate misconception about surgeons is that we are not friendly and always want perform surgery. Visiting a surgeon isn't always about an operation. I want patients to know that although I love to perform surgery, if it isn't in your best interest and I can save you from having a surgery, I will. It's important for a patient to know all his or her options for treatment, which I am here to provide.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about working in Franklin County?
Answer: So far, I have met so many great people and I am excited to continue to meet more through work and leisure. The area is so rich in history, and I feel like I am learning every day. I cannot wait to explore all of the local metropolitan areas that are so close by. I am also excited to get outdoors! I think that Franklin County is unique in that it is a micropolitan area. There is such a big need for more specialists and surgeons because we do service a large area and it allows for patient convenience to offer services closer to home.
Q: What hobbies or interests do you enjoy outside of your career?
Answer: When I am not at work I am with my family. We love doing arts and crafts, going to sporting events, and just spending quality time together.
