Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine: I have always had a passion for helping others to improve their quality of life. Audiology is a unique specialty because I can see every day how the lives of my patients are improved through hearing healthcare. Being able to restore communication with friends and family is very rewarding for me.
What patients should expect when they come to an appointment with me: There are a few different types of appointments patients can make with me. If a patient is coming in with complaints of decreased hearing sensitivity or tinnitus they can expect a diagnostic evaluation, a thorough explanation of the results, as well as recommendations for treatment. If amplification is an appropriate treatment option, a hearing aid evaluation can be scheduled. At this appointment we will discuss the results of the audiometric evaluation and how they pertain to conversations and different listening environments. We will also discuss the patient’s lifestyle and where they feel they need to improve their hearing. With this information we can make a recommendation as to which hearing devices are best suited to their needs.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients: When I am not seeing patients, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. My husband and I recently moved to the area, so we are looking forward to exploring the different activities that this area offers, including hiking and other outdoor activities. I am also an avid reader so if the weather is nice you will likely catch me on the porch with a book.
