Women's Center Thanks Supporters
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - An afternoon tea was held on August 12 to honor the community members and organizations who have provided support to the Rhonda Brake Shreiner Women's Center, an affiliate of Summit Health.
The event was held in the Summit Health Center - Building 2 in Chambersburg, and was sponsored by Chambersburg Imaging Associates. Door prizes were provided by Ulta Beauty, Inc.
"We are truly grateful to all of the special people in our community who support what we do," said Janet Daniels, Director of the Rhonda Brake Shreiner Women's Center.
Gifts and Support
Rhonda Brake Shreiner Women's Center began with a gift from the Brake family.
Since that first gift, according to Beth Stephey, Summit Health's development manager, ongoing community support for the services and programs offered at the Women's Center has been steady and strong.
"Often those who hold fund-raisers or give individually are cancer survivors or have a close family member who has or had breast cancer," Stephey said. "Being able to have a tangible impact and help others in our community is important to them. The gifts we've received are from their hearts."
"Especially touching are the hand-crafted items, often donated by cancer survivors, that are included in the bags given to all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients," Stephey said.
Many individuals and community organizations have shown their support for the women's center, including The Franklin County Cyclists who support local breast cancer services with their annual Metric Century. The First National Bank of Mercersburg holds a branch-wide fund-raiser helps to purchase patient educational materials. The Orchards Restaurant holds a 10-percent Week every October to underwrite cancer cookbooks.
Other supports of the women's center include Weis Market, American Cancer Society, Local Fraternal Order of Eagles, Buchanan Lioness Club, Chambersburg Area Hospital Auxiliary, and many more individuals.
