Weight-loss patients hold fashion show
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Members of the Summit Bariatric Services Support Group held their 3rd annual Drop Your Drawers fashion show on Tuesday, June 4 in Chambersburg.
For the fashion show, support group members wore the clothes that they had worn before their weight-loss surgery.
“What a show and tell moment,” said Louise Johnston, clinical dietitian for Summit Surgical Group – Chambersburg and support group leader. “This is a great way for our members to see how far they have come.”
According to Johnston, this group has a lot to be proud of - the total of 9 participants in the fashion show have a combined weight loss of 1,238 pounds since their weight-loss surgery.
Steve Barrick, of Fayetteville, had gastric bypass surgery in March 2011.
“I had a wonderful experience, and I would recommend anyone to Chambersburg Hospital. The staff and doctors were very friendly and helpful.” Barrick said.
Barrick noted that he decided to have gastric bypass after researching the pros and cons of having the surgery and for him the good outweighed the bad.
“The doctors give you the tools to succeed but you have to apply them,” he said.
Barrick has lost 145 pounds since his surgery and now exercises 60 minutes a day.
“I used to hate running but now I run 2.5 miles a day,” Barrick said.
