CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.  – Runners and walkers will have the chance to add some color to their routines at an upcoming event aimed at promoting health and wellness in the Franklin County community.

Summit Health is hosting the second annual Splash Your Sole 5K on May 16.  The untimed, colorful ‘fun’-run/walk will be held at Norlo Park rain or shine.  The event will begin in three heats at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m.

Runners and walkers will get “splashed” with color at four stations along the course.  The color is non-toxic and 100 percent safe for participants and the environment.

Participants can pre-register for the event online or in person at the event. The cost is $30 and includes a t-shirt and goody bag.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chambersburg Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Plan, a project that will encourage safe walking and bicycling as alternate modes of transit.

“Providing pathways for walking or biking provides a number of community benefits, such as improved health, reduced healthcare cost, and most importantly, a higher quality of life for local residents,” said Barbara Rossini, Vice President of Community Relations at Summit Health.

The plan will provide new sidewalk installations, pedestrian street-crossing safety enhancements, and the development of a network of bicycle routes in Chambersburg. This plan will also extend existing bicycle and pedestrian paths in the borough, including the Chambersburg Rail Trail.
