CASCADE, Md. – As details continue to be set in stone for the large-scaled development of 591 acres in Washington County, Maryland known as the Cascade Town Centre, an agreement announced Thursday offers new details about the plans.
Summit Health officials signed a memorandum of agreement with developer JG Business Link International, Inc. (JGBLI), allowing for the co-development of health care services at the Cascade Town Centre. Also outlined in the agreement – seminars to be hosted at the future site on health-related topics including Western medicine, Asian medicine, pharmaceutical development and clinical trial development.
The agreement also establishes internship opportunities within Summit Health’s system for students attending college at the future site.
Plans for the mixed-use development include condominiums, retail, and a hotel, as well as academic and cultural areas. The 591 acres of the Cascade Town Centre is being developed at the former Fort Ritchie military base. JGBLI has a 20-year development agreement with Washington County that began November 2016.
This agreement comes after much discussion between Summit Health and JGBLI, and aims to increase economic prosperity in the region as well as improving access to health care for Franklin County residents.
“We see this as an opportunity for us to continue to do what we do the best, which is offering comprehensive, quality health care,” explained Summit Health’s Director of Retail Services, Miranda Ramsey. “We are thrilled to also be able to partner in academic and internship programs, and see this agreement as just the start of a long-term relationship in the Cascade community. Whether it be visitors, students, or permanent community members, Summit Health will provide excellent care to those who need it at the Cascade Town Centre and we are committed to also serving the academic needs of students interested in health care.”
“As plans further develop, having a partner like Summit Health strengthens the interest and commitment from our Korean partners,” explained Wonro Lee, CEO of JGBLI.
A date for ground-breaking has not been set.
