CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. –Neely Spence-Gracey is well-known as a world-class runner.
Search for her name on Google, and you’ll find many magazine articles, blogs, and YouTube interviews highlighting the long list of the accomplishments that this 24-year-old running phenom from Shippensburg, Pa has accomplished.
Now, Spence-Gracey has her sights set on becoming a world-class running coach. She and her husband, Dillon have started a coaching company, Get Running LLC. (www.NeelyRuns.com) . And, to add to her arsenal of expertise, she has joined forces with her personal strength coach, Doug Lentz, Director of Fitness at Results Therapy & Fitness to provide a more comprehensive service to her runners.
“I have always wanted to be a running coach, and now I’m able to reach out, give back, and share my experiences and knowledge with runners from across the country,” Spence-Gracey said.
“I have always understood how important strength training has been to my success in the running world, and I wanted to make sure my runners have the same opportunities – so who better to ask for that level of expertise than my own strength coach.”
Lentz, who has more than 30 years of experience in the health, fitness and sports training industry, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach-Emeritus.
“I’ve had the opportunity in my career to train athletes at all levels, from high school and college to Olympians, like Neely’s dad Steve,” Lentz said. “I’ve known Neely since she was a little girl, and have been so proud to watch the successes she has achieved. Her drive and determination is unmatched, so when she came to me with her plan to coach other runners, joining her was a no-brainer.”
At this time, Spence-Gracey is training 18 runners from across the United States, while she runs with the Hanson’s-Brooks running team and continues to train for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
“When I’m asked if I’m training for Rio,” Spence-Gracey said with a grin, “I typically respond, ‘I’ve been training for Rio for 11 years. Now, I’m just getting closer.’”
Spence-Gracey and Lentz are currently working together on her own strength training plan.
“I really enjoy working with Neely,” Lentz said. “We are using methods that have been tested –in the early days by me and Steve [Spence] and some of the most respected names in the strength training industry – to train both Neely and Neely’s runners through her coaching business. It works, and I hope they all have huge successes in their running careers.”
