CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Summit Endocrinology has hired a new pediatric specialist to serve the Franklin County area. This is in line with Summit Health’s effort to bring highly skilled care to patients’ backyards.

Dr. Kanika Shanker said she came to the area to fulfill a growing need. She focuses on providing endocrine and diabetes care to children starting from newborn to late teenage years.

According to Dr. Shanker, “Before I came, patients younger than 18 years with hormonal problems had to travel outside the region for care. In the long term, I want to ensure local children are getting the appropriate quality care they need and deserve.”

“Taking care of the children is an investment in the future of the community,” Dr. Shanker said. “Children have very unique needs. To be able to meet those needs, support their families, and watch them thrive is a true blessing.”

Dr. Shanker explained that she looks forward to working together with other pediatric physicians and other specialists, both in Summit Health and adjoining areas.

In her spare time, Dr. Shanker said she is always looking for new places to visit, and enjoys hiking trails in the local area with her family. “It is simply beautiful outside and fall is an excellent time of year here,” she said.
