CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2014) – Summit Breast Care Services is expanding our service line at Summit Health to include more resources and greater access to care for patients while staying close to home.
Dr. Lori Oetting Eakin is the most recent member to join Summit Health's breast cancer care team. She is a breast surgeon and breast care specialist.
“I saw this as an opportunity to help,” she said. “Every breast patient is different. They all have different needs and different life experiences so you have to tailor treatment to each person.”
She provides care for both men and women with breast issues – both cancerous and non-cancerous – and works with other team members to develop a treatment plan for patients with breast cancer.
Team members – which also include a breast health patient navigator, a plastic surgeon, oncology staff, and radiation oncology staff – work closely with family doctors or the radiologists reading mammogram results to develop a plan of treatment.
“When I was doing general surgery, I saw that many women weren’t getting the overall attention they needed to deal with a breast cancer diagnosis,” Dr. Oetting Eakin said.
“I’m very passionate about women being treated as a whole person and not as a disease that needs to be cured.”
Outside of work, Dr. Oetting Eakin enjoys her spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and cross-stitch. She is currently learning how to restore the body of her 1954 Chevy truck.
