CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Staying active can feel like a chore during cold weather, but there will soon be a community challenge sponsored by the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce that will keep exercise fun and simple to do.

Every week, from Feb. 6 through April 30, a community walking challenge will be held by Summit Health where participants who complete and submit at least 10,000 steps per day will be individually entered into a raffle to win $25 gift cards or Chamber Dollars which can be used at member businesses.

Participants must register by Jan. 27 for either the individual challenge or sign up with three other people for the team challenge, and grand prizes will be awarded to the individual and the team that logs the most steps.

The individual challenge is open to anyone in the community, and participants are encouraged to team up with coworkers, friends, spouses or their children to build a team of four.

The challenge operates on an honor system, and to track your steps you can use your cell phone, any fitness apps, pedometers or other wearable activity-tracking devices. If participants would like a free pedometer, there are a limited number available at the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce, which can be claimed by contacting the chamber or stopping by during normal business hours.

Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, the chamber is located at 100 Lincoln Way East and can be reached at (717) 264-7101.
