Cardiology Testing & Hospital Services

Angioplasty/Stent

A long, thin, flexible tube ("catheter") with a balloon at the tip is threaded through an artery into a blocked blood vessel. The doctor inflates the balloon to open the artery so blood can flow through easily. A stent is wire mesh tube that is small and expandable. It is used to hold an artery open to improve blood flow.

Procedure Location

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh Street, Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Cardiac Catheterization

A long, thin, flexible tube ("catheter") is placed into a blood vessel and threaded to your heart. Through the tube, doctors can take a picture of your heart using x-rays.

Procedure Location

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh Street, Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Cardioversion

A medical procedure to restore a normal heart rhythm for people who have certain types of abnormal heartbeats (arrhythmias)

Procedure Location

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh Street, Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Defibrillator Implantation (ICD) Cardioversion

An ICD is similar to a pacemaker. However, besides using low-energy electrical pulses, an ICD also can use high-energy pulses to treat life-threatening arrhythmias.

Procedure Location

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh Street, Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Echocardiography (Echo)

An ultrasound procedure that uses sound waves to evaluate the function of the heart muscle and identify any possible structural problems.

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160
  • Summit Health Center - Bldg 1 | 22 St. Paul Dr., Suite 203, Chambersburg | (717) 217-6988
  • Waynesboro Hospital | 501 E. Main St., Waynesboro | (717) 765-3404

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

An electrocardiogram is a simple and fast procedure that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160
  • Summit Health Center - Bldg 2 | 12 St. Paul Dr., Suite 102, Chambersburg | (717) 217-6745

Electrophysiology Catheter Ablations

A procedure performed to treat some types of arrhythmia. Catheters are placed into two large blood vessels — one in the neck and the other in the groin — that enter the right side of the heart which allows the doctor to better maneuver them to locate the source of an abnormal rhythm and attempt to correct it.

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Electrophysiology Procedures Diagnostic (EPS)

Tests that help doctors understand the nature of abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). The results can help your doctor decide whether you need medicine, a pacemaker, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), cardiac ablation or surgery.

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160

Cardiac Stress Testing

These tests can be completed with or without imaging (pictures). They are used to measure blood flow to the heart muscle both at rest and during stress on the heart. Images allow the doctors to see areas of blood flow through the heart to identify any possible issues of lack of blood flow to the heart muscle. The patient may walk on a treadmill or receive medication to increase the workload of your heart.

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160
  • Summit Health Center - Bldg 1 | 22 St. Paul Dr., Suite 203, Chambersburg | (717) 217-6988
  • Waynesboro Hospital | 501 E. Main St., Waynesboro | (717) 765-3404

Procedure Locations

  • Chambersburg Hospital | 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg | (717) 267-7160
  • Summit Health Center - Bldg 1 | 22 St. Paul Dr., Suite 203, Chambersburg | (717) 217-6988
  • Waynesboro Hospital | 501 E. Main St., Waynesboro | (717) 765-3404
