CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – As Summit Health continues to strive for top-notch patient care, two employees are making sure the organization stays on top of the best practices in the field of patient service excellence. Gina Long, coordinator for performance excellence, and Barb Selman, patient relations coordinator, now join an elite group of professionals looking to the future of patient care. Each recently became credentialed as a Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP).
The certification, awarded by Patient Experience Institute (PXI), signifies a commitment to the profession and knowledge in the expanding field of patient experience.
“We realize there is always room for improvement and Summit Health affiliates are taking steps to improve our patient experience, including more education, in this case, with the CPXP certification,” said Long.
Once certified, a professional must maintain the credential every three years.
“I found the learning was all valuable,” said Selman. “We are now part of the relatively small group of professionals looking to change the landscape of health care with the patient experience in mind.”
The CPXP certification is an international designation intended for health-care professionals or others with a commitment and interest in the patient experience movement. Applicants have professional experience in caring for patients or have a background in viewing the patient experience from another role. Following intense training and studying, Long and Selman passed a rigorous examination. Development for the test followed a meticulous standardized process, engaging the voices of more than 1,000 members of the patient experience global community.
