CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Eight area residents who plan to pursue careers in health care were honored as recipients of the Medical Staff Scholarship Award at Chambersburg Hospital’s medical staff meeting earlier this month.
Lauren Callewaert is a resident of Fayetteville and 2016 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, where she achieved a 4.5 GPA. She plans to pursue a degree in bio-chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh to become a physician. She is the daughter of Craig and Debra Callewaert.
Tyler Fritz, a resident of Chambersburg, is a 2016 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and achieved a GPA of 4.5. The son of Ryan and Lori Fritz, he will attend the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in biology and pre-medicine. He plans to become an ear, nose and throat physician.
Janelle Garbinski is a Mercersburg resident and 2016 graduate of James Buchanan High School, achieving a GPA of 4.1. The daughter of Jerry and Kristin Garbinski, she will attend Gettysburg College and major in biology and pre-medicine to become a physician.
Nathan Heibeck is a Waynesboro resident and graduated in 2016 from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with a GPA of 4.2. He will pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines and plans to become a primary care physician. He is the son of Wayne and Christine Heibeck.
Alyssa Rudy is a resident of Greencastle and the daughter of John and LaCinda Rudy. A 2016 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School with a GPA of 4.1, she will attend Lynchburg College. She will major in biology or exercise physiology with the ultimate goal to obtain a doctorate in physical therapy.
Mallory Sipes is a Mercersburg resident and 2016 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, where she achieved a GPA of 3.4. The daughter of Richard and Lois Lynch, she will attend Wilson College where she will be part of the registered nurse program.
Tyler Umbrell is a Chambersburg resident and 2016 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, achieving a GPA of 4.5. The son of Barry and Sally Umbrell, he will attend the University of Pittsburgh and participate in its pre-medicine program with plans to become a physician’s assistant.
Phoebe Vo is a Greencastle resident and graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School in 2016 with a GPA of 4.2. The daughter of Danh Tranh Vo and Cam Thuy Le Tran, she will attend a University of Sciences and plans to become a pharmacist after obtaining her doctorate of pharmacy degree.
