CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Nearly 600 community members of all ages added a splash of color to their weekends as they participated in the third annual Splash Your Sole 5k at Norlo Park.
The fun, untimed event featured color stations where runners and walkers were doused in non-toxic paint. Similar color-runs have trended around the nation in recent years, but standing out about this event is its mission to benefit health and wellness in the Franklin County community.
Hosted by Summit Health and the 11/30 Network of Franklin County, this year’s Splash Your Sole 5k event raised money to benefit the Waynesboro Community Walking Trail, a project that aims to connect the main public parks of the town by a safe, walkable path.
Summit Physician Services employee and event organizer Jordan Statler said the event continues to support Summit Health’s mission of building a healthier community.
“It’s a great way for our employees to give back to our community to help promote physical activity. We plan to continue to host this run and to continue to give back to our community in years to come,” he said.
Organizers donate the proceeds to different community groups working to promote health and wellness in the area each year.
“What started out as a smaller employee 5k event has grown over the past three years to become a true community event that promotes health in a fun and exciting way,” explained Kylene Adams, Summit Physician Services employee and event organizer. “We are excited to see how we can benefit other groups in the future as this event continues to grow.”
