CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Members of the Summit Bariatric Services Support Group held their 5th annual Drop Your Drawers fashion show earlier this month in Chambersburg.

Support group members shared their weight loss journey and displayed clothes that they wore before their surgery during the fashion show.

In front of a packed conference room at Summit Health Center – Building 2, six bariatric patients shared their weight-loss stories, including their health issues before surgery and their current health status.

The participants had a lot to be proud of after losing a combined weight of more than 800 pounds since their surgeries, said Jackie DeShong, bariatric manager for Summit Surgical Group – Chambersburg.

“Some of the participants had surgery a few months ago, while others had surgery years ago and have continued to keep the weight off,” she said.

“No matter what stage of the journey you’re in, it’s important to recognize the personal effort it takes to change your eating and activity patterns.”

DeShong and the participants both encouraged those in attendance to think of bariatric surgery as a tool, not a solution.

“Before having surgery, all of these wonderful people had to commit to living a healthier lifestyle. I hope we were able to show how well they are doing, and that change is possible.”
