Cardiology provider with patient

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States? In Franklin County, 6.7% adults aged 18 and older have heart disease, per the 2015 Summit Health Community Health Needs Assessment and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, in the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.

Risk factors for heart disease include high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking. The CDC has found that about half of all Americans have at least one of these three risk factors. Several other medical conditions and lifestyle choices that also increase risk for heart disease include having diabetes, being overweight or obese, living a sedentary lifestyle, and excessively using alcohol.

At Summit Health, we want to inspire hope for a healthier heart! Take steps towards a healthier heart by getting regular physical activity, monitoring your blood pressure, and choosing low sodium foods. If you do experience heart trouble, Summit Cardiology is here to provide prevention services, diagnostic tests, and treatment options for our heart patients.

Check out the following resources for upcoming free heart health events in February 2019, education, and information. Together, we can inspire hope for a healthier heart!
