Kristin Runyon Memorial Scholarship fund accepting donations
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Beginning May 6, Summit Health will accept 2014 donations to the Kristin Runyon Memorial Scholarship for nursing education.
Kristin Runyon, who passed away on Feb. 25, 2010, was a registered nurse at Chambersburg Hospital. Her parents, Sam and Barbara Runyon, established the Kristin Runyon Memorial Scholarship to honor their daughter by continuing her mission to serve others.
“Kristin dearly loved the nursing profession,” said Barbara Runyon. “As a nurse, Kristin enjoyed the challenge of critical thinking, the interaction with the patient; she respected the knowledge of her colleagues, and the collaborative environment with physicians.”
The annual scholarship awards $3,000 each year to a student currently enrolled in a full-time registered-nurse education program. The student must have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 and be a resident of Franklin County or the surrounding communities.
“Through the scholarship, we are able to turn the tragedy of losing our daughter into a positive action to further the nursing profession and to be of benefit to our hospitals and our community,” Barbara Runyon said. “It will enable another nursing student, so full of promise, to have the financial support needed to achieve their career goals.”
Donations can be mailed to The Kristin Runyon Memorial Scholarship, c/o the Summit Health Development Office, 785 5th Ave, Suite 1, Chambersburg, PA, 17201. Donate online by credit card at SummitHealth.org/Giving, or call (717) 267-7794.
