Cancer Survivor’s Day Activities on June 2
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – National Cancer Survivors’ Day is Sunday, June 2. Summit Cancer and Hematology Services, a non-profit affiliate of Summit Health, will be holding a Cancer Survivors’ Day celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. at the King Street United Brethren Church Baker Center, 162 E. King St., Chambersburg, for all cancer survivors and their families. Call (717) 262-4660 for more information.
The Keynote Speakers for this year’s event are Karen Keefer, cancer survivor, and Keefer’s medical oncologist, Dr. John Robinson.
Keefer will present her story “Discovery to Recovery.” She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. While having multiple surgeries and chemotherapy, she was also training for a triathlon.
Keefer, a member of the 2009 Team USA Triathlon World Championship team, was the focus of much media attention during her treatments and training. Her message of hope, recovery, and determination inspired many to not only start healthy habits like running and biking, but also to get yearly mammograms after the age of 40.
