Baer becomes Certified Bariatric Nurse
09/24/2012
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.– Stephanie Baer, Nurse Manager at Summit Surgical Group – Chambersburg received certification as a Bariatric Nurse by The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
ASMBS is a nonprofit organization that provides certification for Certified Bariatric Nurses (CBN). Candidates are required to sit for an exam after appropriate experience, training and education have been completed.
“Bariatric nursing is a specialized field that involves all aspects of obesity, including causes and treatment,” Baer said. “The certification acknowledges a level of experience and knowledge that can help our patients become more educated and equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to be successful following weight loss surgery.”
Baer is an active member of the ASMBS and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC).
“It is very rewarding to work with individuals who struggle with obesity and the health conditions that go along with this chronic life-threatening disease,” Baer added. “I enjoy educating and developing meaningful relationships with our weight loss surgery patients at Summit Surgical Group – Chambersburg.”
Baer said that anyone interested in weight loss surgery should call (717) 217-6800 for more information or visit SummitHealth.org/bariatric.
