A “hip” new way to get back on your feet
Local Orthopedic Surgeons offer a new approach to hip replacement surgery
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Orthopedic surgeons at Summit Orthopedic Group are offering local residents in need of hip replacement a new option - anterior hip replacement.
What is it?
Anterior Hip Replacement is a procedure that allows the surgeon to make an incision in the front of the leg, instead of an incision in the back of the leg as done in traditional hip replacement surgery.
Because the surgeon is able to enter the body through the front side of the leg, it’s possible to reach the hip joint by moving or separating the muscles and tendons, rather than cutting them as in traditional surgery.
Why is this a good option?
If you are a candidate for this type of surgery, you may experience a faster recovery.
“This is a great option for highly active people in need of hip replacement,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lutton, orthopedic surgeon with Summit Orthopedic Group.
“With the anterior or front approach the amount of muscle damage is much less than with traditional hip replacement surgery, so you should have less weakness and can start getting active more quickly. It’s really a great new option in the field of hip replacements.”
Summit Orthopedic Group has offices in Chambersburg and Waynesboro.
