Hearing Loss Prevention Tips

Barry Deese, Audiologist provides top tips to help prevent hearing loss:

  • Wear ear protection: Earplugs or earmuffs can be word to protect you from loud noise.
  • Limit loud noise exposure: Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause permanent hearing loss. Listening to music too loudly for too long can cause serious damage.
  • Remove earwax safely:  Over-the-counter earwax removal kits are available at most pharmacies and include directions for safely softening earwax.  It is always a good idea to seek the advice of an ENT doctor if wax buildup is a concern.  Cotton swabs can be easily pushed too far into the ear canal and cause damage.
  • Have your hearing tested: If you are already having trouble hearing or have close relatives who’ve experienced hearing loss, schedule a hearing test with an Audiologist at Summit ENT and Hearing Services today. A professional can help you avoid more hearing loss, or help you by fitting you with the appropriate hearing aids.
