Meet Your Doctor - Yaser Elnahar, MD, FACC
I completed school and started getting involved in medical mission trips to places such as the Dominican Republic. It was on these trips that I became interested in the science of cardiology because it’s very challenging and involves the whole body.
Q: What drew you to begin practicing in the Franklin County area?
I lived in New York City all my life so I knew I wanted to be in the country for a change of pace. It will be nice to enjoy the rural lifestyle here while also working for a major health organization.
Q: What would you say is a common misconception about cardiology or something people don’t realize as often?
In all of my work I’ve noticed that preventative care is not stressed as much as it should be, which is discouraging because a lot of what we see and treat can be prevented. By emphasizing proper diet, exercise and daily activity, I hope we’ll have a great impact on the community as a whole.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about living in Franklin County?
I’m really looking forward to establishing a good relationship with my patients. But I also love the outdoors – canoeing, hiking, biking – so I’d love to get involved with or plan events, such as a community walk, which also reinforce the idea of preventative care through diet and exercise.
Q: What hobbies or interests do you enjoy outside of your career?
I love to travel any chance that I get. I want to see the whole world. I continue to do medical mission trips because I do like to go to underserved areas across the world and do my small part to make a difference.
