CHAMBERSBURG, PA --

Doug Lentz, CSCS, *D, Director of Fitness and Wellness at Results Therapy and Fitness in Chambersburg, traveled to Shanghai, China to teach strength and conditioning techniques to the coaches of future Olympians and other high-caliber athletes in May 2008 at the Shanghai Sports Institute.

“It was an honor to be picked,” Lentz stated. “I felt very humbled when asked to travel to Shanghai and work with elite level coaches. It was an experience of a lifetime.”

Lentz taught over 180 coaches and sports directors during his week-long trip to Shanghai. “The coaches in attendance represented all Olympic sports in which the Chinese compete,” he added.

According to Jay Dawes, Director of Education for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA, the organization that Lentz represented while in China), Lentz was one of six people chosen, out of a membership of 33,000, to make the trip to Shanghai. “Doug has been a very active member of our organization and is well respected in the field,” Dawes stated. “We wanted to send someone who could provide theoretical and hands-on applications to improve performance. Doug was the first person we thought of.” Lentz, Dawes and other colleagues presented topics regarding the essentials of weight training and techniques for the development of power, speed and agility.

Lentz graduated from Penn State University in 1981 and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction from the NSCA.  He is a senior coach with USA Weightlifting, and was the Penn State University Women's Tennis Team Strength and Conditioning Volunteer Coach from 2000 to 2007. He has been teaching and training athletes and coaches for over 25 years.  He has experience working with Division I, II and III collegiate level sports teams.

Lentz also takes time out of his busy schedule to work with local high school athletes. He conducts classes on speed, agility and quickness at Results Therapy and Fitness, an affiliate of Summit Health. He is currently working with various athletes from the Chambersburg, Shippensburg and Greencastle-Antrim varsity sports teams.

“It’s great to watch these kids get faster and move better,” Lentz said. “I’ve been working with them primarily on speed and agility training.”

According to Lentz, learning to move properly is not just for those that play team or individual sports.  “Whether you play a sport or not, learning to squat, bend, twist and turn properly can help you avoid injury,” Lentz said. “If you’re a mother and you pick up your children, it’s important to learn the proper body mechanics and movement patterns associated with activities of daily life. Proper movement is proper movement, whether you’re an athlete or someone who’s never played a sport in their life.”

At Results Therapy and Fitness, individualized programming is offered for people of all ages and activity levels. Staff members can teach you the proper exercises and techniques for your individual goals.

Results Therapy and Fitness also offers physical therapy and occupational therapy for all ages. The aquatic rehab facility features an L-shaped pool with three depths for different amounts of buoyancy.  It comes complete with jets to provide resistance, benches for whirlpool massage and three viewing windows, so therapists can see below the waterline.
