Healthcare Career Institute                                     

Description:

An award-winning, intense career exploration program for high school juniors and seniors
Students are graded on course work, attendance, work ethic, and soft skills
Summer program earns .5 credit toward graduation
Fall program earns 1 credit toward graduation

HCI Applications will be accepted January - February 2014. Tenth and Eleventh grade students can apply.
 

Areas:

Chambersburg Hospital

Interests:

All interests including healthcare or business operations, includes a focused volunteer period in 1-2 departments of the student’s choice

Dates:

Summer program is Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – noon, for 5 weeks (typically June and July) and counts for .5 credit toward high school graduation
Fall program is Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., for 18 weeks

Description:

Collaborative program with Penn State Mont Alto that allows students to have a hands-on experience in healthcare

Requirements:

Must be entering 9th or 10th grade

Description:

A behind-the-scenes experience for anyone interested in learning more about healthcare

Requirements:

Must be 13 or older for positions that do not provide direct patient care
Must be 16 or older for positions that involve direct patient care
References will be needed
Minimum commitment is 50 hours
Coaches and/or student volunteers.

Fastrack Program

Description:

For Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to become a Registered Nurse (RN) through Excelsior College
Requires a full time commitment
The total cost of the Fastrack Program to students is $35,000 for the first 12 months of enrollment. Students who must remain in the program beyond 12 months, will pay an additional $1,000 per month.  However, all costs will be deferred for those students who choose the Expense Deferment Option.

Requirements:

Must be LPN willing to commit to a full-time, intensive academic program

Areas:

Program is held at an off-site Summit Health residence near Chambersburg Hospital

Interests:

Nursing

Dates:

Offered up to 2 times per year
Length of study is 12 – 18 months
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
