Our approach to thyroid care

Thyroid disease can disrupt your life. It can affect your energy levels, sleep quality, metabolism and mood. Too much thyroid hormone can also affect your heart, muscles, bones and cholesterol.

We take a personalized approach to your care, learning about you and your family, not just your condition. Together, we'll create a treatment plan that meets your unique needs.

Conditions we treat

  • Hypothyroidism, which results from the thyroid gland not making enough thyroid hormone
  • Hyperthyroidism, which is caused by Graves' disease, a swollen thyroid or small growths in the thyroid called nodules

Tests and treatments for thyroid disease

To diagnose hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, your doctor will first ask you about your past health problems and do a physical exam. If your doctor thinks you have the condition, a simple blood test can show how much thyroid hormone your body is making.

Hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid pills. Your symptoms will probably go away within a few months, but you'll likely need to keep taking the pills.

Hyperthyroidism is most commonly treated with radioactive iodine, and most people are cured after taking one dose.

You'll also need regular follow-up visits to make sure you have the right dose. If your condition is mild, you may not need treatment right away.
